South Korea and North Korea are in a state of truce. However, since they are the same people, it is natural for them to come together. Korea has been economically active in North and South Korea since 1945. During that time, there was the tragedy of the Korean War. After this half-century of conflict, South Korea has come to overwhelm North Korea in economic power. South Korea has grown into the fourth largest economic power in Asia. North Korea’s challenge is food shortages. The United Nations and NGOs have reported that North Korea is suffering from malnutrition. It is said that 10 million people, or 40% of the population, are malnourished. No matter what the North Korean regime is like, if more than 40% of the population is hungry, the region will become unstable.
It may be a long way off, but if North Korea’s diplomatic relations with the United States go well, there is a basis for economic relations to improve. In particular, if it is decided to abandon nuclear weapons and missiles, the best scenario will be created. The unification of South and North Korea will advance the denuclearization of North Korea and the transfer of military industry. Many military personnel will take up new professions. When reducing military personnel, utilizing that human resource will bring many benefits. Utilizing North Korea’s military technology and the engineers who support it will be the driving force behind the prosperity of the Korean Peninsula.
If North and South Korea are unified, it is said that it will cost $1.7 trillion over the next 30 years. The challenge is how to raise the $1.7 trillion. If the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is realized, tens of thousands of North Korean engineers who have been developing nuclear weapons will lose their jobs. One theory is that there is a proposal to move these engineers to the United States and neutralize them. The proposal is to retrain these engineers in Japan or South Korea and reemploy them. Their job with nuclear knowledge will be to learn the manual for dismantling nuclear power plants. If tens of thousands of North Korean engineers are dismantled, the dismantling work will proceed quickly. The world will pay attention to these engineers who have the know-how to dismantle nuclear power plants. This is because the whole world is moving to dismantle nuclear power plants. The number of people required for the dismantling is overwhelmingly small compared to the demand. This will be a dispatch with a much higher income than ordinary dispatched workers. The income going to the home country will also be significantly higher. It may become the basic capital to boost the growth of a unified Korea. Unless North Korea becomes rich, there will be no stability in East Asia.
