There was a survey about happiness. We asked 20 to 69-year-olds working in cities in 18 countries around the world, “Do you feel happy through your work?” In Japan, the average score for “Do you feel happy?” fell by about 25 points . It seems that there is less happiness here than in other countries. Japan also had the second lowest score in the tolerance category of “actively interacting with people who have different ways of thinking, tastes, and ways of doing things.” Japanese corporate culture is characterized by strong authoritarianism, a strong tendency to avoid responsibility, and low tolerance for people of different backgrounds. This time, I thought about how to increase happiness while working.
In a company, it is important to increase the independence of employees and create an atmosphere of “doing things by yourself.” It is important to create an atmosphere that welcomes autonomy. This can easily be seen in the growth of children. In the long term, giving children more time to think independently will help them develop their talents. Achievement and completion are the greatest pleasure for the brain. And this joy of accomplishment motivates children, adults, and seniors alike.
There are people who find it difficult to interact with people whose ways of thinking and tastes are different from their own, and there are also people who make efforts to change that. Changing relationships that you don’t like and want to avoid can turn into something that strengthens you. The relationship you want to avoid can also become a place that you can experience training that will help you grow. There are many cases that a close sense of solidarity is born between friends who have shared conflicts and last-minute conflicts. A close sense of community at work can even provide an incentive to overcome social isolation. A heterogeneous group can be said to improve through refinement. Even in a heterogeneous group, it seems that by making your own ingenuity, you will be able to behave with restraint. It is becoming common knowledge that diversity is important and that meeting people with diverse values increases productivity and generates new ideas. Individuals devise and make efforts in a heterogeneous group. Companies provide an environment that individuals can devise ideas and make efforts. Furthermore, the local community will create an environment that accepts heterogeneous groups. If we can do this, we will create a great community. The simplest model for this might be a workplace or region that gets along well with foreign workers.
