It’s a mistake to think that being harsh on yourself when you fail a test is the right thing to do. In fact, it’s been shown that showing compassion and encouragement to yourself actually motivates you. Failure naturally triggers negative emotions. These emotions can lead to stress and have negative physical and mental effects. On the other hand, if you achieve good results on a test, the positive emotions you feel can provide the energy to take the next step. So, how can we reduce negative emotions? Experience has shown that for every negative emotion, you need to feel three times as many positive emotions. This means you can overcome the negative emotion.
We can experience negative emotions such as anger, depression, anxiety, frustration, and panic. When we find ourselves in these situations, we know that humans have the ability to overcome them. This ability is called “resilience.” “Resilience” is the ability to withstand adversity, bounce back, and persevere. Furthermore, resilience is a skill that can be acquired. These skills include stress management, flexible thinking, self-efficacy, optimism, good interpersonal relationships, goal-setting, problem-solving, and emotional control. Resilience is not innate; it can be improved through training.
In fact, ongoing research has been conducted into how people become happy. There are six elements to happiness. The first is positive emotions. The second is engagement. The third is relationships. The fourth is meaning/significance. The fifth is achievement. The sixth is health. Happiness could be described as a complex combination of several elements. Positive feelings are more than just a good mood. They boost physical and mental energy, broaden one’s perspective, and promote growth. On the other hand, negativity, which is far removed from happiness, can drag one into a negative state and create a vicious cycle. Negative feelings and the accompanying physical changes often sap one’s energy. When feeling negative, the first thing to do is to focus on what you can do. When in this state, it seems that engaging in an activity that you can become passionate about and immerse yourself in is recommended.
